"Y.A.P.S. — “Your Artists Perfectly Selected” (Yaps On Record)"

    Hey y’all, how y’all doing 😁

In case you were curious, I’m technically not jobless anymore but rather on a contract position with possible extension! (Everyone, cross your fingers & toes that it gets extended because it’s been surprisingly fun, and I’ve been learning a lot about different social media landscapes.

Also, sidenote, I finally took my grad pics! I got my nails done again (they’re very hard to type with btw).

I hope y’all have been enjoying my Substack and YouTube pairings on here but today I wanted to share with you artists and songs that I’ve been listening to. Whether that be while reading, in the car, or writing!

    1. Kitty Craft

Pamela Valfer, the alias of Kitty Craft, is a band I found while scrolling through people’s playlists looking for new music. (I have to look for new music every month or I’ll literally go insane from hearing the same thing over and over again.) She debuted originally in 1994, but around 2003/2004 after finishing her 3rd album, Pamela put Kitty Craft on hiatus. During that hiatus, she focused on her visual & multimedia art & career as an art professor. Fun Fact: She actually was on Jeopardy & excels in an array of disciplines, including performance, installation, video, and drawing. Homegirl is talented! If you’re looking for cozy, chill, summer driving - look no further than Kitty Craft. Below are some recs if you’re interested.

Even Clairo is a megafan - Genevieve Wood.

    1. TOKiMONSTA

Jennifer Lee, known professionally as TOKiMONSTA is a record producer & DJ known for her blend of electronic, hip-hop, R&B, and dance music. Basically if you like & listen to Disclosure, you’ll most likely vibe to her music. Fun fact she’s actually the first Asian-American producer nominated for a Grammy in the Best Dance/Electronic Album category & founded her own label called Young Art Records. I’ve actually been listening to her for the past year without consciously realizing it. (I think I added one of her songs to my radio mirror parked/t playlist a bit ago, and went down a rabbit hole recently of her music). She’s been in the game for a while and collabing with artists like Anderson.Paak, Isaiah Rashad, Gavin Turek, & many more. Her music to me embodies a lot of the early 2000s of dance & electronic music, but it’s not cringey and actually lifts my spirits.

I’ve added a few of my favs below for you to check out if you’re interested!

    Isn’t she sick!?!

    1. Richard Spaven

Richard Spaven is a British drummer, composer, & producer who’s released some of my favorite songs for years. If you’re into instrumentals & more jazzier/bebop-esque, then he’s the artist for you. Richard has worked with incredible artists like Flying Lotus, Alfa Mist, Cinematic Orchestra, and more. He’s a big fan of soundtracks and how journeying & music complement each other, and you definitely feel that when listening to his beats. His music genuinely takes you on a calming trip or sometimes just makes me feel like I’m in a James Bond movie. He’s very technically disciplined in jazz and notes his ability to really challenge and create different types of sounds & atmospheres within his music.

I’ve added a few of my favs for you to check out below!

Thanks so much for reading my yaps once again & if it’s your first time doing so, I hope you stick around :D

Also, I’d love to feature guest writers in the music/arts space on this Substack occasionally, so if you’re interested, definitely contact me via DMs here or on any of my socials below!

Complete side note, as I mentioned earlier, I’m a recent grad and still looking for full-time roles, so if you know of anyone who’s hiring in the social media/content or music space, let a girl know (please).

    HMU!
